Gunsmith Heroes
Welcome to a new bit of the greenwood gunsmith website. This is dedicated to you, the shooters who have come to me as customers of my gunsmithing service, and have become my friends.
This is Lisa Seargent, my latest addition to my "gunsmiths heroes" section.
Why is she included here? Well, Lisa only started shooting 18 months ago, then suffered three strokes, leaving her unable to shoot for six months.
Since then, having had some fitting work carried out by me including a Jones Adjuster/Kick-Eez combination and an insert in her stock to raise the comb, she has managed to become the lady competitor for the Greater London DTL team, and in fact one the ladies competition in that event.
She is my hero for the guts and determination she showed in overcoming her strokes and continuing with our great sport. Well done Lisa.
Steve Roberts
Steve Roberts is the owner of the “Marmite” gun, as seen in my project update,of the 18/11/08.
He has gained entry to this page for three reasons.
1. He was brave enough to allow me to play with his stock and forend and create something very special.
2. He then won The Greater London Skeet Championship with it.
3. He is, without a doubt, one of the nicest guys I have ever met!
Well done Steve, and thank you for trusting me.
Mr. Johnny Walker
So, here he is at last, the Silver fox, Mr. Skeet, Slippers, one of our best known and loved veterans, Mr. Johnny Walker, with his newly custom graded Browning. Nearly 30 years ago, I sold this man his first gun, when I worked for Don Gray Sports in Chatham, so I guess you could say it’s my fault he came to clay pigeon shooting.
I recently asked him how many championships he has won. Now whether he was being modest or just old age his reply was” too many to remember!” Love him or not, he is an Icon in the world of skeet and is still as passionate today about our sport as when he started.
He s also one of my oldest friends, he must be a hero to have put up with me for the last 30 years. Thank you John, for all you have done for our sport, and, for all you have done for me.
Mr Gordon Lee
The Red Baron, with his amazing Krieghoff.
I have had the privilege of undertaking various gunsmithing jobs over the years, including stock work, barrel work and some of the gold work. It is truly a “one off”.
As Gordon say’s “When I miss, I miss with style”. Love it or hate it, it is an incredible gun. Many years ago, I helped design and perfect the release trigger unit.
The gun actually fires when the trigger is released, not when it is pulled as Gordon suffers from trigger freeze.
Tracy Meston
From one of my oldest customers and friend (sorry Gordon, not referring to your age), to one of my newest customers and, hopefully, a friend. This is Tracy Meston, head coach and owner of Frock Stock and Barrel, the company based in Essex but covering the South East, specialising in clay pigeon coaching and organising clay pigeon events.
Although have only known Tracy a short time, I have to say that I have already been very impressed with both her knowledge and professionalism. It’s always good to meet people with as much passion for helping people to improve their shooting as I have. P.s. Yes, she does look kind of scary from this end of the gun, but honestly, she isn’t, unless you are a clay!!!!
